Hope Elise Ross Lang was born on November 28, 1933, in Redding, Connecticut.
Born Hope Elise Ross Lange in Redding Ridge, Conn., Lange grew up in show business as the daughter of a musician father and actress mother.
She was an American actress, two-time Emmy award winner, and a nominee for the Academy Award in 1957.
Early Life and Career
Lang's father, John George Lang, was a musician and arranger for Florence Ziegfeld, while her mother, Minette Buddock, was an actress and later owned a restaurant.
During her youth, Lang worked as a waitress in her mother's restaurant. One day, her photo was accidentally printed in a newspaper, which led to an offer for a job in one of New York's modeling agencies.
Lang's acting career began in 1943 on Broadway in the play "Patriots." After a decade, she made her first television appearance and in 1956, she made her film debut in the movie "Bus Stop
